Five misunderstandings of rock wool insulation

Rock wool is a kind of exterior wall insulation material, which has the characteristics of small thermal conductivity, Class A non-combustibility, and good chemical stability. However, there are still some misunderstandings about rock wool in the society.

First, the outer wall insulation system is just a layer of insulation material.

Analysis: The exterior wall insulation engineering refers to the use of a certain fixing method (bonding, mechanical anchoring, spraying, pouring, etc.), combining materials with better thermal insulation effects with the building wall to form a whole, thereby increasing the wall Thermal resistance value and heat capacity, an engineering practice to achieve thermal or thermal insulation effects; now this system also includes waterproof and fire protection engineering.

Second, rock wool in building insulation can also be ignited.

Analysis: Building fires are things that no one wants to see, so choosing non-combustible materials for insulation is a major means of solving building fires. Rock wool is an inorganic material, which is non-combustible. It belongs to Class A fire insulation material and can withstand high temperatures above 1450 degrees. After several tests, the fire department determined that the rock wool could not be ignited. Everyone can rest assured that the use of rock wool insulation system can fully meet the effect of insulation, and at the same time ensure the fire performance in compliance with fire standards.

Third, to use fire resistance rock wool board, heat insulation and other properties must be reduced.

Analysis: The high-quality rock wool produced in China belongs to Class A non-combustible materials, and its fire resistance is its own property. There is no need to change other characteristics of rock wool. In addition, the tensile strength, water absorption, durability and thermal insulation performance of rock wool can fully meet all the requirements of external thermal insulation systems.

Fourth, rock wool is toxic and can cause cancer!

Analysis: Of course, rock wool is non-toxic and does not cause cancer. Friends who said this were misled by asbestos, thinking that rock wool and asbestos are the same type. In fact, the two are different.

After decades of research by the World Health Organization on whether rock wool fibers are carcinogenic, the results clearly show that artificial mineral wool fibers such as rock wool glass wool are not carcinogenic. The thematic project expert group of the International Cancer Research Agency also concluded that the commonly used rock wool, glass wool and slag wool are not classified as human carcinogens. Scientists and medical scientists did not find significant differences in the lungs of workers working in the production plant and employees working in the office through long observations and comparisons. Based on a large number of objective facts and strong theoretical foundations, a monograph published by the International Cancer Research Organization (IARC) in 2002, was categorized as a "third class" or "non-carcinogen" ". The list of carcinogens published by the World Health Organization's International Cancer Research Agency is preliminary reference. Slag cotton is in the list of 3 types of carcinogens (not yet classified for human carcinogenicity).

Fifth, the production process of rock wool also consumes a lot of energy and generates a lot of emissions, so it is better not to produce it.

Analysis: All or most of the production waste of insulation rock wool board manufacturer is recyclable. After treatment, the pollution of the emissions will be reduced to a minimum level, which can fully meet China's environmental protection requirements. Manufacturing 1 kg of rock wool consumes about 20MJ of energy, while producing 1 kg of polystyrene insulation board consumes at least about 85MJ of energy. The main raw material for the production of rock wool is very ordinary stones such as basalt, which has almost unlimited available reserves. In addition, the production of a unit of rock wool can save hundreds of times the energy consumption in the production process. Therefore, the production and use of rock wool products is a low-carbon act that benefits the country and the people.
